Tryall Golf Club (800) 238-5290
Jamaica golf course review
The Tryall Club, Jamaica’s premier private club, offers members and discerning guests the luxury and hospitality of a true villa lifestyle. Set amid 2,200 lush acres, The Tryall Club
provides all the ingredients necessary for an exquisite experience: world-renowned golf, private beachfront, exceptional cuisine, and the best views in Jamaica. The 18-hole, 6836
-yard, par 71 Ralph Plummer design, was built in 1962 and all the green complexes were renovated in the early 2000's. Tryall offers some of the most stunning on-course vistas in
the Caribbean, with the front nine holes bordering the Caribbean Sea and the back nine winding through verdant hillsides. There are 50 soft sand bunkers and water comes into
play in some shape or form on 14 holes.
The resort property is spectacular, and features 75 privately owned estate villas with that are available seasonally for lease. These luxurious accommodations range from 2 to 8
bedrooms with up to 15,000 square feet of living space. private pools, manicured gardens and private golf carts for travel throughout the grounds. Villas come fully staffed, most
with their own personal chef or cook, butler, housekeeper, laundress and gardener.
The TRYALL Golf Club is a stately and challenging layout. The course meanders along the Caribbean for the opening holes, before playing into the foothills with jungle ravines, dry
creek beds and elevation changes challenging your shot-making ability. The rolling fairways have generous landing areas with few bunkers. The green complexes are another
story, however, and require accurate approaches to avoid the abundant green-side sand traps. We found the speed of the greens and conditions of the bunkers to be incredibly
consistent. On property is the Tryall Golf Academy with driving range and practice green.
The front nine at TRYALL is a tough par36/37, with a couple of especially challenging par 3's. The par three 4th is a gorgeous and challenging golf hole, with the ocean to the left
and the Flint River crossing diagonally in front. It is one of the reasons Tryall has been honored as recently as 2005 as the Best Golf course in the Caribbean by Caribbean World Magazine, The back side features considerable elevation changes, but is infinitely more score able. When the wind is up, the job of playing to one's handicap is a much tougher
chore at Tryall.
Caddies are mandatory in Jamaica and golfers are blessed to have them - their knowledge of the courses and Jamaican culture is truly appreciated. The tradition of using
caddies on the island serves a valuable purpose of providing decent paying jobs to a number of dedicated employees. These folks play as much golf as they can (hey - we can do
that!) not only for personal enjoyment - but also to develop knowledge of the course and the game, so they can help you enjoy your round. When asked, they can usually provide
you with a wealth of information - especially concerning club selection and in reading the greens. $10 pp for 9 holes and $20 for 18 is the suggested base tip.
TRYALL runs a classy operation. If you want a true vacation and are looking for pampering - with the options to ""play' as much as your heart desires - TRYALL is the place with
incredible rates beginning after Easter and lasting throughout the summer. The golf course will not disappoint you. We cannot wait to return! For more information on the TRYALL CLUB, click here to view their web site.
